Chet started his Tool and Die apprenticeship at City Machine and Tool in Toledo, Ohio in 1962. He moved to Cresive Tool and Die Ypsilanti in 1964 and finished his Tool and Die apprenticeship there. In 1973 he went to Midwest Microwave to establish their prototype machine shop and work in new product development. After managing many different areas in the company including the production machine shop he became Engineering Manager in 1992. In 1994 Chet left Midwest Microwave for Ann Arbor Machine Company to become Chief Engineer of the Broaching Division. After 8 years at Ann Arbor Machine, Chet left to become Engineering Manager at Broaching Machine Specialties in 2002.
In his tenure with BMS Chet has championed the evolution of the engineering department to one of the most technologically advanced in the industry. The changes implemented by Mr. Bonk include, acquisition and implementation of the latest 3D design software and related computer hardware. Chet has also been instrumental in the continuing advancement of BMS machine and tooling designs including expanding the BMS line of electromechanical drive machines and development of numerous special machines for unique broaching applications.
Chester's vast and varied machining background adds an exciting dimension to BMS's capabilties in the area of machine, tooling and material handling design. With his can do attitude and competitive spirit few customer requests pass thru the door of our engineering department without Chet finding a machining solution. If you have a broaching project that needs a standard machine, special machine or has cumbersome part handling requirements, Chet can and will find a way to get it done.
Hobbies
Chet's hobbies are race cars and restoring muscle cars. He enjoys building and racing his own cars. Presently he races a 65 Chevy II with a 383 cid SBC in the local bracket classes. Over the years Chet has gone as fast as 8.2 seconds at over 163 mph in the quarter mile, been a national record holder and has appeared in two national event finals seen on ESPN. Chet also has a restored 1966 Chevrolet Impala Convertible with a warmed over 454 cid BBC a 700R4 transmission and a 4:11 12 bolt rear end.
